If you have chosen what you believe to be a really good name that reflects your business it would probably be best to get the other versions of the domain name like .net, .biz, .info, etc..Its good to protect your brand early on in the process and domain names are inexpensive.

Brainstorm the top 5 keywords related to the website you are going to be launching. See if you can mix them up, add prefixes, suffixes, put two of them together in a way that is unique, memorable and easy to type. It may help with the search engines if you have a popular keyword related to your website in the domain name.

4. Things to avoid

Avoid copyright infringement, you don't want a company to sue you claiming that your domain name somehow delutes their branding efforts. Don't use numbers in your domain name, most people are not expecting it and will mis-type your domain name. If you are going to use a hyphen in your domain name try and make sure you purchase the version without the hyphen, that way when people leave the hyphen out when they type your domain name in they will still arrive at your site.
